By Jeff Hunter, ideveleopment.info
This script can be used to dump the contents of a BLOB column. The user will be prompted for the OWNER, TABLE_NAME, and COLUMN_NAME for the BLOB column to read from. The anonymous PL/SQL block will write the contents of the BLOB to a file named using the format:
OWNER_TABLE_COLUMN_<counter>.out

Tuning Database Buffer Cache
By Vikash Varma, Intelligent
Consulting
Buffer pool or buffer cache is a memory structure within
Oracle SGA that is used for caching data blocks in the memory. Accessing data from the memory is
significantly faster than accessing data from disk. The goal of block buffer tuning is to efficiently
cache frequently used data blocks in the buffer cache (SGA) and provide faster access to data.
Find out how to tune oracle database buffer cache beyond buffer hit ratio. This article presents a step-by-step guide for tuning and efficiently utilizing database block buffer.

Ad Hoc Queries Against
Tables/Views
By Dave Keller
The adhoc_pak is a
PL/SQL package geared towards allowing Ad Hoc queries against
tables/views. It relies on Oracle iAS to provide the Web interface.
To use, first alter the package specification by changing the schema
owner variable as appropriate and compile it into the database. Then
compile the package body into the database - no changes are needed.

Cluster That Index!
Part 2
By Christoffer Hedgate,
sql.nu
A while back I wrote an article
about clustered indexes (Cluster that index!), where I stated that in my opinion
all tables should have a clustered index defined for them. Since I wanted to
keep the focus specifically on the advantages and disadvantages of clustered
indexes I intentionally left some information and discussion regarding indexes
out of the article. In this article I would like to elaborate on these matters
as well as respond to some comments by readers to the previous article.

Each month, Tom Mochal presents a set of
project management tips and techniques for handling various aspects
of planning and managing a project. Tom has over 23 years of IT
experience. He has developed a comprehensive, scalable project
management process called TenStep (www.TenStep.com).
He has also developed PMOStep (www.PMOStep.com),
which is focused on building, implementing and supporting project
management methodology through a Project Management Office. Tom also
has a comprehensive application support methodology called
SupportStep (www.SupportStep.com).
In a small project, there is usually
not a lot of effort associated with formally defining the work. However, some
definition work still needs to be performed. The result of this short definition
process is a one-to-two page document called a Service Request.
