How to: Create a Data Mart or Data
Warehouse Time Dimension
By Steven Hauser, Database Administration & SQL Scripts
A datamart or data warehouse will
usually need a time dimension to use for date queries that look at
periods, weeks, etc. Here is an example of how to generate one from
the basic date entry and the Oracle date functions. The same idea
can be used in DB2, Informix, Postgresql, etc.

So You Want to Use Oracle's SPFILE
James F. Koopmann, www.dbdoctor.net
Oracle's traditional
method of storing parameters in the INIT.ORA file has given way to a
more robust method-- the server parameter file (SPFILE). Learn what
truly works in converting and maintaining your parameters without
ever having to use an editor again.

Debugging Stored Procedures on
UNIX and Windows
Extracted from the IBM
Redbook "Cross-Platform DB2 Stored Procedures: Building
and Debugging" The
support for SQL Procedures implemented in DB2 UDB allows you to
remotely debug stored procedures executing on the DB2 UDB server.
The remote debug is already available for Java stored procedures.
However, at the time of writing this redbook, remote debugging for
SQL stored procedures (and C/C++) was still being developed, so we
could not test this support.
In this section, we describe the steps required to remotely debug
SQL stored procedures executing on a DB2 UDB server, based on the
steps required for 444 Cross-Platform DB2 Stored Procedures:
Building and Debugging debugging Java stored procedures. Note that
since we did not have the final version of the product, these steps
may be different when the support for SQL Procedures is available.

Identify and Delete
Duplicate Data from a Table
By Randy Dyess,
TransactSQL.Com
Recently I was asked to
help someone clean up their database after they had double loaded an
import file. The problem they were having in identifying and
deleting the duplicate information was the fact that a timestamp is
applied to each row of data as it is inserted into the table. While
the rest of the row of data was duplicated, the timestamp made the
row unique. It was this uniqueness that caused the simple methods of
determining and deleting duplicate data to fail. They needed a way
to delete data from a table in which they determine the criteria of
what made the data duplicate.
After helping them out with their problem, I decided to write a
short article to show the simple solution I came up with to delete
the duplicate data from a table, even if that data is considered
unique by SQL Server..
