Script to Retrieve a Web Page into a CLOB
Field This script demonstrates how to use UTL_HTTP.REQUEST_PIECES to retrieve a web page into a clob field. The web page is saved twice to the same record. In one field the case is preserved. In the other field, the case is all made lower to simplify searching. The lower case field is used for searching, but the preserved case field is used for display. Included in the package are some procedures using DBMS_LOB functions for searching and displaying the content. Click Here for the Script. Win a Free Cap! Installing Oracle 9i on Linux SDOUG is working with the Mission Bay High School on creating projects using databases that will be accessed through Oracle Portal. In addition, we want to create an Oracle Portal site for SDOUG. The prerequisite of all this is setting up a reliable server that is secure and can house the test databases. This paper outlines all the steps the authors took to install Oracle9i on the server. Do you have a Users Group paper or presentation you would like to share with your colleagues around the world? Send your paper to cwhite@revealnet.com for possible publication in the Pipeline Newsletter. If your article is accepted, we will mail you a canvas, embroidered baseball cap and your article will be distributed to over 23,000 subscribers.

This pocket reference (94 pages) provides quick-reference information that will help you use Oracle's PL/SQL language, including Oracle 8i features. It is a companion to Steven Feuerstein and Bill Pribyl's best selling Oracle PL/SQL Programming book. This book boils down the most vital information from Oracle PL/SQL Programming into an accessible summary of fundamental language elements (e.g. block structure, identifiers, variables, datatypes, and declarations); statements for program control, cursor management, etc. Install the products today and call for your walk-through. T-SQL Coding Standards Standards are useful in just about any activity. Although it might take some time to get used to a uniform way of doing work, it will certainly pay high return dividends when you are maintaining your own or someone else's code down the road. Conventions for writing code become especially crucial when working with a team of developers. Just imagine what would happen if everybody used their own favorite way of coding. It would be rather difficult to review and comment on code written by different team members. If one of these members were to be assigned to a different project it would not be an easy task to maintain his or her work. Code reviews are one of the best ways to learn good programming techniques, not only for people who read the code, but also for the author. Click Here for the topic.
